Hotel Introduction
The Silk Road Tsongkha Hotel is located right across from the Ta'er Lamasery, on one of the eight-petalled hill that makes up the sacred Lotus Mountain. The hotel faces the Grand Hall of Golden Tiles, the very spot where Tsongkhapa, founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Master for Panchen Lama and Dalai Lama, was born. This unique, Tibetan-style hotel has a tranquil and enchanting environment that will refresh the mind and spirit. The huge engraved lobby painting, colourful wooden pillars, carved ridgepoles and exposed beams are designed in the simple and elegant Tibetan architectural style. Pilgrims and tourists alike will be captivated by the traditional design and modern facilities of this striking hotel.
Hotel Location
About 130 kilometers from Xining is Qinghai Lake, China's largest inland saltwater body. Rumor has it that dinosaurs were seen around the lake, but only fish, fowl and human sightings were confirmed. Bird Island sanctuary is another provincial attraction, featuring migrating geese.
Famous for its huge grassy plains, Qinghai Province is also known as the Green Sea. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers have their sources here. And the world's highest highway runs through the Qinghai to Lhasa, Tibet. Along the way, you can see antelope, yak, donkeys, camels and lynx.
Hotel Rooms
The Silk Road Tsongkha Hotel has 32 rooms, of which 16 are Tibetan style while the rest western style. All furnishings were developed and hand-made by Kumbum's lama artists. Provisions are being made for an expansion of 100 rooms expected by 2003.
